Abstract

Stunting threatens the presence of a qualified generation and greatly affects the success of a nation's development. The community understands a balanced nutritional diet, parenting patterns and clean and healthy living behavior but has not optimally applied it in their daily life, so that there are still many nutritional problems for under five, especially stunting. The purpose of the study was to obtain a strategy for accelerating stunting prevention through religious approach. This is an analytic research method with qualitative approach and case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interview, focus group discussion, observation, and document study. Informants from the target of advocacy, social support and empowerment targets in accelerating stunting prevention were selected by using a purposive sampling technique. Community empowerment in accelerating stunting prevention has not been implemented optimally in the community, and even social support is adequate but Islamic religious counselor did not not receive adequate information about stunting so that they did’nt optimally convey it back to the community. The policy for accelerating stunting prevention is adequate at the central, provincial and district levels in the form of legal products, while the policies on religious approaches were limited. The strategy for accelerating stunting prevention with a religious approach should be used as a national policy. The religious approach mentioned were 1) based on communication methods and channels, namely through coenselling or course for prospective bride and groom, Islamic study assemblies and Friday sermons, 2) based on message structure or communication material for acceleration of stunting prevention with Islamic religious language
